Inflation: Not Covid But Your Political Interest – John Mahama To Government

Not Covid-19 but your political interest, formal president John Mahama attributes the current ‘economic hardship’ to government mismanagement.

Former president John Mahama has said the Ghana is facing economic crisis not because of COVID-19 effect but how the Nana Addo – Bawumia administration has poorly managed the economy.

He said, the introduction and increments of new taxes is not to increase government’s revenue but service our debt which has “ballooned to unsustainable levels”

“Our debt has ballooned to unsustainable levels- topping 80% of GDP- exposing us to very high risk of debt default. Almost all of our tax revenue is used to service our debt and the effect has been the introduction of several new taxes”,he explained.

H.E. John Mahama went on to state the effect of the introduction and increments of taxes.

“This has led to rampant increments in the prices of goods and services. This is primarily responsible for the hardships Ghanaians are going through now.”

In conclusion, JDM thinks government must accept that not Covid-19 but the NPP’s hunt for political power is the cause of the economic hardship.

“This government must accept that it is their mismanagement of the economy, their thirst for consumption expenditure and the desire to spend beyond our means in order to win elections that have plunged us into the current crisis, not necessarily COVID-19,he said.”
