Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Welcomes Swiss Press Council Ruling

Okonjo-Iweala, WTO boss has applaud Swiss Press Council over ruling against “grandmoother” tag. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,the Director-General of Word Trade Organization has accepted and congratulated the Swiss Press Council for finding the newspaper headline “Grandmother becomes boss of WTO” as against gender equality.
Upon the news outbreak, that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed the Director-General of WTO, the Swiss newspaper publication Aargauer Zeitung, publish an article headed “Grandmother becomes boss of WTO”. This made the news publication to receive backlash from many people which made them to apologize.
On Thursday August 19, the Swiss Press Council ruled that the article is against gender equality. However, the Swiss Press Council couldn’t notice any racial bias as people was saying.
After the ruling, Ngozi took it to her Twitter wall to welcome the ruling.
“I welcome the ruling of the Swiss Press Council calling out the gender bias & sexism of Swiss newspaper Aargauer Zeitung for its headline ‘Grandmother becomes boss of WTO’ upon my appointment. It is right to call out sexism, racism or both when you see it!”, she said.
