4 Officers Interdicted For Unprofessional Police Misconduct.

Police misconduct is one unprofessional attitude that is being showcased in the Ghana Police Service off late. Many citizens have expressed worries about how Police Officers intimidate, harass and abuse them. However, the new police administration led by the Ag. IGP Dr George Dampare has given assurance to halt this and bring sanity into the service.

In the fight to stop police harassment and other unprofessional misconduct, the Ghana Police Service has interdicted four(4) Police Officers for assaulting residents and other unprofessional misconduct. The Ghana Police Service has placed interdiction on four (4) officers for allegedly assault residents of Zujung,Lamashegu and Nakpan Zou in Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.

In an official statement released by the Police Service regarding the interdiction, the officers were sent to assist NEDCO/VRA officials to arrest some residents who were believed to have engaged in illegal electricity connection but the Police Officers went overboard to abuse the people.

“The Police Administration has with immediate effect, interdicted four Police officers working with the Northern Regional Police Command following the alleged assault of some persons in Tamale in the Northern Region today, Tuesday, September 21, 2021.They were assigned to assist NEDCO/VRA officials to arrest some alleged persons involved in illegal power connections” the Police Service stated.

The Ghana Police Service went on to assure the residents that the officers will pay for their misconduct as stated in the working regulations and has started investigations to identify the victims in order to assess them medically and assist them.

” The officers will face a Service Inquiry, subject to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service.Processes have commenced to identify the victims for the necessary medical assessments and assistance.We apologize unconditionally to the affected persons and the general public”, residents were assured.

The Ghana Police Service is therefore cautioning all officers to stay professional always in protecting the citizens and avoid unnecessary misconduct because any officer caught will not be spared.

Police misconduct at Tamale Metropolis.

Some officers of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday September 21,2021 assaulted some residents in Zujung,Lamashegu and Nakpan Zou in Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region for allegedly engaged in illegal electricity connection.

According to a Myjoyonline  report,the Northern Electricity Company (NEDCo) had gone with the police officers to arrest residents which were caught by NEDCo for illegal connect in an operation embarked by NEDCo to cub illegal power usage.

However, the situation took a new face when the office reached the residents. A video of the incident speculating on social media shows a victim who was lashed by the officers for holding mobile phone. Though the victim said he was not calling anyone but the officers insisted he gives them the phone because they suspected he was placing a phone call.

The Northern Region Crime Officer Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga assured the angry residents to investigate the matter and make sure officers involved are brought to booked, when the incident was reported by the victims.
